Baby Race, Watt end 2016 European CIK-FIA OKJ series as runners-up

It didn’t end up as in the team’s best hopes, but the great run of the Baby Race squad in the OKJ European Championship will definitely be remembered. In the season finale held at the Genk track in Belgium, Noah Watt missed the title by just two points. The young Dane has been the frontrunner in points for most part of the season, before been nipped by Finlay Kennally. Both Watt and the Baby Race team are aware of having been as competitive as their best contenders for the whole year. After finishing fourth in the first pre final, Watt suffered two contacts in the final, costing him two key positions. A slight rainfall also did note help him. He eventually crossed the line in 14th.

In the OKJ class, Baby Race also brought Bogdan Fetisov to the final. The Russian was 14th in the pre-final, while he completed the feature run in 15th at the end of an outstanding recovery. Marzio Moretti has constantly been quick, but faced some contacts and penalties in the heats, so his ambitions were jeopardized. He finished the 11th in the pre-final before ending up 32nd in the final. Edoardo Morricone, Yukui Hong and Shihab Al Habsi could not make it to the final.

Baby Race fought for the European title in the KZ2 class too. Leonardo Lorandi lined-up fifth in standings, but with still good chances left. He finished P12, P4 and P5 in the heats, before taking a win in the pre-final. In the feature race, Lorandi ended up third but was later penalized for pass under yellow, thus dropping down to 14th place. Lining-up as the youngest driver in the series, he ended up 7th overall.
